Feng Shui Tips for Your Home Office

The Chinese practice of Feng Shui dates back several millennia and it has practical advices and principles that help bringing harmony and prosperity in an environment. I’ve been diving into Feng Shui for some years and I’m choosing now some tips for you that could be helpful during this pandemic period, that placed the working environment for the most of us in the tranquility of our very nest.

So let’s see how we can make the best of our home office: The first advice would be placing your desk facing the door, so that you can see the room and have a sense of control of the environment and of who is entering. This control position goes deep within our consciousness while working taking away insecurities and providing comfort and good energy.

Have something solid behind your desk chair, such as a wall or tall furniture

Chose your desk wisely, making sure your desk is sturdy above all else (so avoid a leaning desk, for example). Whatever style of furniture you choose, make sure the desk is in good repair, the legs are even, and there is absolutely no wobbling. Wood desks are ideal because it’s a natural material that is also sturdy. The chair and its comfort is also crucial.

Here are some chairs and desks that I love:

Have your home office as far as possible from the bedroom / bed area as rest and work are two important areas of your life but so different, and is better not to mix them.

Have inspiring décor and messages in your home office, that recharge, energize you and put you on that full speed track. They can be photos of the persons that support or mentor you, personalities or work in your field that you admire. I recommend keeping family photos and the more personal ones for other areas of your home.

Have your home office comfortable for the eye while keeping an energetic vibe through colors. You can use tones of green (good for the brain and representing growth), dark colors and shades (associated with money) and also accents of the lucky and prosperous red to keep you on track. If you feel stressed, go with earth tones.

Be mindful of the quality of air and light in your home office. Let your brain have plenty of oxygen and your eyes plenty of natural light, in order to enjoy your home office. Invest in very good artificial light also and bring in air purifying plants (Peace Lilly that also blocks some of the bad radiations is a good choice). Let plants be your forever friends, as they will refresh not only the energy of your space but also your own. Feng Shui also advices for round leaves plants like Pilea Peperomioides (also called the Chinese money plant).

De-clutter your home office until there is nothing left to be taken away and everything looks neat and ordered. Clutter drains your energy and dampens your best intentions so you need to create a clear routine daily after finishing working, and not let clutter ruin your health and your business.

Scents and aromatherapy is another part of Feng Shui and I recommend using citrus or peppermint essential oils, which can be very helpful on long, stressful days.
