Interior Design Trends for 2021

As the beginning of this blog and launching of this online shop platform happens at the beginning of the year, I thought of sharing with you some of the trends that will surround us from now on. They have deeper roots than usual in the year that passed and are influenced by our new way of living and socializing, due to the pandemic era we are going through.
Let’s start optimistic and reveal the Pantone colors of the year, that are: Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray

The Pantone news release announcing the colors described Illuminating as “a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power.” Ultimate Gray, like pebbles, is emblematic of “solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.”

Classy Brass Accents continue their trend also this year, as brass combines beautifully with much of the materials you can usually find in a space, being versatile and easy to use. It looks appealing together with glass and high end materials and at the same time enriches and gives a sense of detail if combined with the more rough ones.

Kitchen, the Heart of Your Space as Feng Shui would always teach, becomes even more predominant now in the midst of a pandemic, as we are trying our best to become cooks and our family socializations surrounds this space more than ever before. As general trends I see the all- grey or all-dark elegant but impersonal kitchens out. They will leave room for warmer kitchens in bold colors, green cabinets being in the trends, indigo colors and the rustic ceramics that may edge out smooth tiling. Marble back splash is also a big trend.

All-white interiors may start to fade out
People are trying to create more visual interest using color lately, not necessarily using bold bright ones but combining different light-colored patterns and textures. Also matching furniture starts to be outdated.
Accent Walls Era comes to an end as they already are too seen, somehow childish and a solution that seems to be adopted when there is no better idea. We’ll hopefully return to monochromatic walls that let the furniture be the main character in the room or to decorated walls but in a more homogeneous, detailed and precious way.

The Home Office as Central Point
Working from home has become the new thing and while missing the human interaction with our colleagues, we can take some advantages out of that. We can create exactly the type of office that is right and suitable for us, that maybe in a formal pre-pandemic times wouldn’t have been possible. Here some Feng Shui principles like placing the chair facing the space entrance, having a solid wall backwards and proper air flow and filtering plants are the main things that come to my mind. The chair we are using is of utmost importance, and having the level of comfort right. A leather armchair for example would fit in a library feel, acting as a sanctuary to read and reflect, where an upright swivel chair suits written desk work.
Outdoor spaces and their woven furniture styles will be popular in 2021.
Rattan and wicker detailed furniture are on their way in this year. Rattan furniture is made from woven palm stems and wicker pieces are typically made of woven willow twigs, both styles being lightweight and beautifully transforming our lives outdoors.
